How I work as a financial advisor

Ever since I started working in financial advisory in 2011, I have seen this profession as a long-distance run and also a great commitment to my clients, to whom I promise my care.
I’m a financial advisor. A phrase that has not always evoked good feelings in people in the past. But I believe that if the work is done honestly and the advisor puts his client first and not himself, it leads to long-term satisfaction for everyone. This has been confirmed many times during my time in this field and I would like to share with you how the cooperation with me goes from the first meeting to the moment when we become friends.

First meeting

The goal of our first meeting will be to get to know each other and see if we fit as people. If you choose me as your financial advisor, we will meet regularly in the years to come, so it’s important that we hit it off at the start and also tell each other what we expect from each other.
My task during our first meeting will be to analyse your wishes and needs. We’ll talk about whether you’re already paying off your home loan or are just planning to buy your own house or apartment. We will find out how your income is currently secured in case of a loss of income due to injury or illness. The topic of providing for your family will certainly come up. Last but not least, we’ll go over your property and liability insurance and talk about your financial preparation for the future.

I am not a salesperson, so we will definitely not be signing any financial product agreement at the first meeting.

Second meeting

Based on the information you receive, I will put together a financial plan to the best of my ability. The goal of a financial plan is to match your options while addressing all aspects of your current and future needs. What this plan will include depends on many things, and most importantly on what stage of life you are in. I will propose a different solution to a newly employed graduate and a different financial plan to a family with young children. In our second meeting, we will go over this plan together. It’s like a tailor taking your measurements for your suit or dress. I took your measurements from the first meeting and now we are going to try the suit to see if it fits. The dress or suit must not be tight, you must feel comfortable and the price tag should match your idea. And so it will be with dealing with your finances. At the end of our second meeting, we will agree whether to loosen or tighten somewhere.

Third coffee

Now we’re practically just dealing with formalities. I’ll get all the paperwork ready and we’ll go sign. It is of the utmost importance to me that my clients understand everything they sign. So we’ll go over everything carefully and rethink what we’re doing and why we’re doing it. The financial plan I make is called. “turnkey”. This means that I handle all subsequent correspondence on your behalf. I also make sure that everything arrives where it should and I check all the processes. You’ll find that I’m very particular about this. I simply do my work in such a way as not to add to your worries, but rather to relieve you of them.

What’s next?

I say it at every meeting and I will write it here. I stand by my word when I say you can contact me!

But what does that mean? Typically, you will use me in the event of an insurance claim. I will either handle the whole deal with the insurance company for you, or at least help you with it. It is also likely that your needs will change during your lifetime. For example, if you go on parental leave, change jobs, etc. Similarly, you are likely to turn to me when a difficult financial situation arises and you need to withdraw some money from your savings. Or, on the other hand, you will be well off and want to capitalise on your savings. As you have probably already realized, in the course of everyone’s life there will be many pleasant or less pleasant situations when they will need the promised help of their financial advisor. And that’s when I’ll be here.
